Jason,
Yesterday, a 17-year old shooter opened fire in an Iowa school, injuring five and killing one sixth-grader. It is a tragedy and we send our deep condolences to the families of the victims, and the people of Perry, Iowa.
We are also pissed off.
A mass shooting occurs in the United States, on average, at least once a day. In 2023 there were more mass shootings than days in the year. Congress must prioritize bipartisan gun safety laws that keep our communities and families safe.
We urge Congress to:
- Ban assault weapons, meant for the battlefield, not civilian use.
- Implement nationwide comprehensive background checks.
- Fund mental health initiatives.
- Enforce safe gun storage in homes.
But as long as MAGA extremists drive the GOP we don’t expect much movement.
Jason, too many families and communities have been affected by the violent reality of gun violence. We need action, not thoughts and best wishes.
Here’s the thing: keeping our communities and children safe should not be compromised by a fat NRA lobby check. We need to expand and protect our majority in the Senate and gain power in the House, or we will continue to witness tragedy after tragedy.
Our hearts are with anyone who has ever been touched by the reality of gun violence.
