Resigning as leaders of the free world

Jason,

I'm honestly not sure I can bear to watch tonight. This speech is coming after six weeks of chaos and cruelty. Just the last few days has seen an administration focused on pure destruction:

  • His tariffs just kicked off a trade war with our neighbors, ripping up a pact Trump himself helped broker, and sending global markets into chaos while leaving American consumers to pick up the tab.
  • Trump has asked the richest man in the world to implode the federal government, particularly the parts that hold the wealthy accountable. He's put tens of thousands out of work, and now his lackeys have their hands on Social Security. Experts predict disruption in benefits for the first time in the program's 90-year history.
  • The ongoing defunding of USAID programs is undoing decades of progress on global health and poverty. Kids will suffer, and many will die — purely because Musk and Trump see this funding, less than 1% of our federal budget, as "government waste."
  • And we've all but ended the greatest military alliance of the last century — with open hostility to an ally whose been under attack for three years by an avowed adversary of the United States. We've cut off funding to Ukraine to do Russia's bidding, and I honestly can't think of anything more shameful than that.

That's the context in which Trump will tell the country he's putting "America First" — the biggest load of BS in his arsenal. Because any student of history, anyone who's paid attention to recent global events can tell you where this is going:

America Alone.

The president is resigning our role as leaders of the free world — leaving all of us far less safe, far less stable, and far less prosperous.

Here's the thing: I don't believe this is what the plurality of American voters signed up for last November when they voted for Trump's promise of cheap eggs and gas. But this disaster won't end unless the outrage bubbling up in communities across the country is felt in the hall of power in Washington. Tonight, direct yours in a productive way — rush a donation to DMA and help build our grassroots operation for the critical mission ahead of us.

Thank you,

Amy
