Jason,
Donald Trump has been president for 100 days. And I'll give him credit for one thing — he's made a hell of a mess:
- Promptly tanked an American economy that experts believed would have a banner year.
-
Built a cabinet entirely out of sycophants and screw-ups — which led to among the most galling, amateur-hour intelligence leaks in American history.
-
Trashed our longest-standing, closest alliances — with Europe and with Canada (where anti-American sentiment is so high, it flipped a national election on its head).
-
Turned our backs on Ukraine and left them to fend for themselves against Putin after insulting its president and shamefully lying about the origins of that war.
-
Started a trade war with <checks notes> the entire world and handed China a generational opportunity to strengthen its foothold in the global economy. American consumers will be feeling the ramifications of this nonsensical tariff policy for years to come.
-
Ripped away visas for students who engaged in political protest (what some refer to as "free speech").
-
Fired the regulators and inspectors general responsible for rooting out corruption, while forking over government contracts and appointments to Trump's largest donors and self-dealing with crypto schemes and God-knows-what-else. He's always been a scam artist, and now the Supreme Court has given him immunity for actions taken as president. Speaking of SCOTUS…
-
Blatantly ignored a Supreme Court ruling requiring the administration to facilitate the return of a wrongly deported man to a labor prison in El Salvador.
-
Detained and deported many legal residents (and even children who are U.S. citizens), the vast majority of whom have no demonstrated criminal history.
-
Jailed judges who weren't fully enabling their mass deportation efforts.
-
Laid off over 120,000 federal employees and aimed to shut down entire agencies like the Department of Education — all part of a "government efficiency" task force led by the world's richest man that will end up costing taxpayers more than it's saved.
-
Ended hundreds of USAID programs that have already resulted in children dying unnecessarily and will certainly lead to so much more unnecessary death and suffering — not to mention, dismantling America's strongest vehicle for soft power.
-
Slashed major research funding for major diseases, which has essentially dismantled America's mission to find a cure for cancer.
That said, I'm told some primo tax cuts are in the works if you're a corporation or a mega-millionaire. I could go on, but we all have better things to do.
There's one big thing I left out — something that bothers Trump so much that he's already lying about it in public. According to the most recent polling, Donald Trump will be the president who most rapidly squandered his post-inauguration popularity. His approval rating is the lowest of any modern president at this point in his term.
Look, polls go up and down and you'd be right not to focus too much on them. But the trend line matters. When Trump tells a fawning crowd that "nothing will stop me" and when he openly ponders running for a third term, keep in mind that public opinion of the man is in freefall.
No, Donald, you're not unstoppable. In fact, some of us are determined to prove it. If you can, chip in to build our grassroots operation today — and let's make sure Trump never recovers from these disastrous 100 days.
Thank you,
Amy
