Jason, I keep thinking about these sneakers that Trump is selling.
They're golden, they're gaudy, and they're called "Never Surrender."
To me, that name is pretty rich, considering we're watching a Republican Party — under orders from Trump himself — on the verge of surrendering Ukraine to Vladimir Putin. That came after Trump threatened to let Putin do "whatever the hell they want" to our NATO allies.
Trump might be selling sneakers that "never surrender" but his foreign policy is centered entirely on capitulation to Russia. Whatever Putin wants, Trump is showing the world he'll deliver it on a silver platter. And the last few days have made this reality stark, and the stakes all the more urgent.
Trump's refusal to condemn Putin for murdering Alexei Navalny isn't particularly surprising — but it is horrifying. This has never been about easing tensions with Russia. If Trump gets to be president again, America will be alone on the global stage with a president who's dedicated to being the world's biggest Putin stooge.
Look, I know that Trump's most die-hard supporters don't care about any of that. Many of them, if Tucker Carlson is any indication, even like Putin themselves. Perhaps some of them even admire a leader who has his left-leaning political opponents killed.
But here's the thing: A whole lot of voters really don't like it. When they get a glimpse of Trump's authoritarian side, he loses them. And critically, these voters aren't just small segments of the electorate — in some key battleground states, our research shows they're upwards of 10% of the population. If he loses just a small portion of those folks, it's game-over for Trump in 2024.
Our job is to make sure we find and reach those voters. Let's show them over and over again Trump's abandonment of our allies, his open disdain for democracy, and his growing love for dictators like Putin.
I firmly believe this is the key to winning this election — our grassroots operation needs your support to fund it. Will you chip in today and help ensure we reach as many of these pro-democracy voters as we can?
More soon — thank you,
Amy
