| Jason, Five years ago today, our country watched in horror as a violent mob attacked the U.S. Capitol in an effort to overturn a free and fair election. It was devastating to witness how fragile our democracy is when our leaders prop up and even encourage lies and extremism. January 6th was an attack on one of the fundamental principles of our democracy: the idea that our government is forged by and for the people. Five years later, our democracy is still under threat. We are seeing attempts to undermine elections, weaken the rule of law, stretch the limits of power, and normalize political violence. We cannot set aside our dedication to protecting our democracy. We must show up every single day and make sure that the voice of the people is heard. It's work that demands courage, accountability, and leaders willing to stand up when it's hard. That's why I'm running for Congress. As an attorney, I've spent my career defending due process, standing up to the federal government, and representing individuals who flee abusive authoritarian regimes from around the world. I've seen what happens when systems fail the people they're supposed to protect, and I never imagined we'd see this playbook unfold in the United States. Our democracy deserves leaders who will defend it with the same urgency and care. I believe deeply in peaceful transfers of power, free and fair elections, and a government that answers to the people, not extremists. I will never stop fighting for those values. They are fundamental to who we are as Americans. Thank you for standing with me and for believing in the future of our democracy. With gratitude, Lisa Ramirez |
