Alaska workers have been without a reliable retirement program since the Alaska Legislature voted to eliminate the pension program for state employees in 2006.

 

FIRST: Alaska workers have been without a reliable retirement program since the Alaska Legislature voted to eliminate the pension program for state employees in 2006. THEN: State employees–including our firefighters, police officers, and teachers–had their benefits taken away, leading to a recruitment and retention crisis at state agencies and making them less effective. NOW: The Alaska Senate passed legislation to revive the pension program for state employees, and we're working to secure a veto-proof majority in the Alaska legislature to fight back against Gov. Mike Dunleavy and his allies' efforts to block all progress. Supporting Alaska's hard-working families starts with supporting our unions and giving state employees a reliable retirement program.
