My oath requires me to do everything I can to stop these people from ending the American experiment

Jason —

I can't stop thinking about a recent trip I took with a group of veterans to D.C.

Touring the monuments and memorials, seeing the sheer numbers of names on those walls — it hits harder today. It's not just numbers that died. Every name is someone who gave everything, whose family lost so much.

I'm glad those walls are there, in walking distance of the most powerful people in the world — serving as a silent retort to those who like to talk tough. When you see the names on the Vietnam or Korean War Memorials, that bluster is exposed.

Freedom isn't free. And we must make sure that when we commit American lives in battle, it's not done flippantly but done with great thought and for the most urgent causes. We must make sure that the woman or man who orders those forces to go into harm's way not only understands the great sacrifices of those who willingly fight our nation's battles but also the limits of what the use of force can actually achieve.

As I reflect on all of that, politics feels so small. But the stakes in this election couldn't feel bigger. America can't afford to have unserious leaders, who have no honor and have contempt for those who've served. We desperately need a president who knows — and understands — our history.

This election is tied. We are on the brink of electing someone who doesn't come close to understanding the sacrifices of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and cannot (or refuses to) comprehend the unique, important role the United States plays on the world stage.

It brings me back to that oath I took at the Naval Academy and then again when I was commissioned as a leader of Marines — to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

That's why I do this. It's why I keep doing everything I can to raise funds for our voter outreach efforts, trying to reach the pro-democracy voters who we can win over — the people who we believe will decide this election.

And it's why I need to ask you to join me in this mission. When we look back on this moment, we'll want to know that we did everything we can to prevent that man from ever stepping foot again in the Oval Office.

Your donation before our deadline would mean the world to me. (And thanks to a generous supporter, it will be matched dollar for dollar until tomorrow night.)

Thank you,

Amy
