For your consideration…

Jason -

As you think about how you'll mark Giving Tuesday, I want to humbly submit for your consideration a few causes I believe are worthy of your support in these difficult times.

Here are a few orgs that are top of mind right now:

  • IAVA (Iraq Afghanistan Veterans of America): This group of post-9/11 vets was instrumental in pushing through common sense policy changes for our military and veterans such as the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, the post-9/11 GI Bill and most recently the PACT Act, which expands health benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits. IAVA's CEO is a female Iraq veteran, and I've seen how committed she is to having the backs of all of our veterans.

  • Veterans for all Voters: This nonpartisan, nonprofit organization was started by a classmate of mine from the U.S. Naval Academy. They work on reforming our democracy for the long term — enacting structural changes at the state level like open primaries and final-five voting. They have been racking up victories in all corners of the country, and they could use your support to continue their work at a time when the cause of safeguarding our democracy couldn't be more important.

  • Secure Families Initiative: This is an amazing group of military families who fight for equity by making sure our military members and their families have the right to vote and that their voice is heard in foreign policy decisions of the day. I expect this group to play a critical role in the years ahead, on the frontlines building the power of diverse military families as an active and influential constituency, advocating for the civil rights of military families of color, and defending women in the military and LGBT Americans serving our country in uniform.

I know there are so many worthwhile ways to give back this time of year. As I look ahead at life under a second Trump administration that has considered plans that would deploy our military against our fellow citizens, in American cities, and for partisan gain, my heart goes out to every organization that is fighting for all the men and women who've sacrificed so much for our democracy.

Thank you in advance for supporting these great causes however you can,

Amy
