the "lady in the hat"

… my cousin, Bella Abzug.͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏

2024's coming to a close. When January 1st hits, we'll have just months until Election Day.

I've been reflecting a bit — on the recent election, on the last few years of our city's and our country's political landscape. And I wanted to share some of my inspiration for running for NYC Mayor — my home town, and the greatest city on Earth.

I've known I wanted to go into public service since I was 10 years old.

I remember sitting down in front of the TV at home with my grandmother watching election results. My grandmother pointed at the screen and told me: "the lady in the hat that just got elected to Congress is related to you."

That "lady in the hat" was Bella Abzug.

Little did I know that my cousin Bella was just getting started. In just a few years, she would sponsor the Equality Act — the first-ever gay rights bill — and shepherd through the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, giving women financial freedom through access to credit cards.

"Battling Bella" inspired me to a life of public service. She wasn't afraid to take on the big fights and get the job done. And that's how I'll serve as your next mayor.

If you're sick of self-dealing in the Mayor's Office and ready for a mayor that takes on the big fights for YOU — DONATE NOW. As a bonus, all donations from NYC residents over $10 are matched 8X. Multiply your impact by donating today.
