This week, we should be celebrating the 52nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court case that protected abortion access as a constitutional right for decades. Roe v. Wade was the law of the land until Donald Trump and his loyalists ripped it away from millions of Americans.
We are also heartbroken by the passing of Cecile Richards, a fierce advocate for women's leadership, an activist for reproductive rights, and a beloved member of the Emerge family. As an Advisory Board Member, Cecile graciously shared her invaluable wisdom in supporting the Emerge mission.
Here's the truth: A person's healthcare decisions are their own and not politicians. It is up to us to fight back to protect our right to reproductive freedom.
This year, we have a critical election in Virginia. Virginia is the closest state where women from Southern states travel to get reproductive care — we must ensure we're building a firewall at the local and state levels to keep reproductive rights shielded from Republican attacks. But we can't do this without your support.
