Why I believe we can (and will) prevail

Jason,

There's no putting lipstick on this pig. Tomorrow will be among the lowest points in modern American history. You don't need me to tell you all the reasons why.

But I refuse to let despair get the best of me, and I think you should join me in that mindset.

For one, we can't afford it. I expect a shock-and-awe approach to Trump's first days in office — the only way to slow down or stop the MAGA agenda is to fight back.

The truth is, as hard as this moment is, we have boatloads of evidence that fighting back actually works. Even when his side controlled both houses in Congress and the courts, Trump failed a lot in his first term.

That's not an accident. In fact, I'd argue that people like us had a lot to do with it — let's look at what our grassroots team has achieved together in the last seven years:

  • In 2018, we helped build the wave that took back the House from Trump and his allies.
  • In 2020, we took on Mitch McConnell and helped strip him of the Senate majority (while kicking Trump out of office).
  • In 2022, we fought like hell against Trump's plans to install election deniers in key swing states — defeating every single one of his cronies running for secretary of state.
  • And in 2024, we executed a targeted plan to mobilize voters with military families and backgrounds. And polls showed that those folks were twice as likely as the rest of the electorate to cast their votes based on the future of democracy.

We haven't always won the race. But we have a knack for identifying a strategy where our team can have the biggest impact. And boy do we know how to execute on it!

So what's next? To me, I see a GOP House majority that is just a handful of seats — much smaller than it was in 2018. And I believe winning back the House is the most important thing we can build for in the next two years — putting an essential check on the Trump agenda.

But, in the meantime (and right this second), we must also actively (and publicly) push back against the most harmful policies and actions that this second Trump administration will try to enact. This requires a constant, targeted effort and it will require resources.

You want to help make it happen? Make a donation right now, and let's start the campaign to take away Trump's power to harm the moment he's sworn in.

It was right after Donald Trump was sworn in the first time that I decided I was done sitting on the sidelines. I threw my hat in the ring as a candidate for Congress.

These are moments we'll look back on and talk about for decades. Let's remember how we fought back and refused to surrender our democracy.

I'm so proud to be in this alongside you.

Amy
