this is sabotage

Jason,

Ultra conservatives have dreamed of destroying the federal government for decades. In Project 2025, they laid out plans to purge civil servants by the thousands.

This is the nightmare we're living through right now, and it's all being executed with a breathtaking combination of ignorance and corruption.

Elon Musk, the richest man on Earth and Trump's largest donor, was neither elected to office nor approved by Congress. He's already walked head first into chaos and disaster — whether it's short-staffed air traffic controllers or accidentally fired nuclear safety experts. They've axed entire programs and agencies for ideological reasons, which is blatantly illegal. They've broken into systems to gain unwarranted access to our personal data and confidential information. And they've gutted and hobbled critical parts of the government that exist to keep Americans safe from disease.

It's sabotage, and we'll be feeling the repercussions of it for years.

That's not to mention the people who are feeling it profoundly today. Thousands of families have been devastated by sudden job losses, and thousands more are uncertain of what the future holds. I've talked to federal employees who have considered canceling a summer vacation or refraining from making a big purchase because they have no idea if their job is safe.

The biggest lie in all of it is that this is being done to make government more efficient or to save taxpayers money. If that were the case, they wouldn't have shut down the oversight teams responsible for tracking down tax cheaters and corporations ripping off American consumers. But those were among the first targets of The Musk-Trump Purge. What they're doing will invite more fraud, corruption, and waste — not less.

Keep in mind that the person overseeing this has direct, and serious, conflicts of interest — Musk's companies have billions of dollars in contracts with the federal government. (They also do quite a lot of business with our prime global adversaries — one reason why Musk has been refused some high-level security clearances.) They've already fired people who were making life difficult for SpaceX. They've already had investigations into his companies completely halted.

The end result is a wholesale abuse of taxpayer funds to personally enrich Musk, Trump, and their buddies — all while ripping out by the roots the services and governmental functions that all of us depend on.

We're being ripped off. We're being lied to. And we're being told to grin and bear it.

They're hoping that most of us are just too tired, too worn down to muster a fight. But the last couple days, we've seen signals that they're very wrong. Protests have cropped up across the country. Terminated civil servants are speaking out to expose the dangers of the Musk-Trump destruction. And hundreds of lawsuits have taken these illegal actions to the courts.

None of that, on its own, will be enough. But all of it, if it continues to pick up steam, if enough of us get involved, will add up. So far, Congress has refused to act like an equal branch of government. The way that ends is when enough pissed-off constituents force their hands.

So here are three things each of us can do right now to build momentum on the side of fighting back:

  1. Call Congress, and keep calling: (202) 224-3121. I know it can feel like a drop in the bucket, but those buckets won't overflow without all of us.

  2. Encourage federal civil servants you know to tell their story, even anonymously. Documenting the wrongdoing is instrumental to ending it.

  3. Find a local group putting boots on the ground near you — an organization doing good right now where you live. Showing up matters a lot.

Here's my promise to you. I will be out there every day, wherever my voice can be most effective. We are rebuilding our lean, mean, grassroots machine one person at a time for the months to come. This won't be easy, but I have to believe in our ability to defeat those who want to end the American experiment as we know it.

Thank you. More soon,

Amy
