I serve on the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Yesterday I questioned Trump Administration officials about the Vance/Hegseth/Gabbard/Rubio group chat on Yemen that also included... national political reporter Jeffrey Goldberg.
🤦
It goes without saying that accidentally disclosing high-level deliberations about imminent military operations is amateurish and incompetent.
***
The media has focused on the drama at the end of my questioning, when I rebuked CIA Director John Ratcliffe for refusing to acknowledge that this was a huge mistake by the Trump White House.
But I want to highlight why this was a huge mistake:
By inadvertently disclosing the potential timing of U.S. air strikes in Yemen, the grossly incompetent officials on this Signal group put U.S. air crews at risk.
***
Now imagine what would happen to a U.S. military servicemember who accidentally texted a national political reporter about imminent American military operations.
At minimum they'd probably lose their security clearance.
They might be court-martialed.
These Trump officials won't even acknowledge the gravity of their error.
And they'll likely face no consequences.
That is what makes yesterday's evasion and deflection by Administration officials so outrageous.
***
Now more than ever, we need hard-hitting oversight.
Help me continue to hold them accountable for the people of Georgia.
Help me keep fighting in the Senate for Georgia and our Republic.
If you can, please contribute $10 or whatever works to my re-election campaign so I can keep going.
