This week marks 100 days since Donald Trump took office. It's hard not to take this time to reflect on the ways the Trump administration has repeatedly and egregiously prioritized the gun industry over public safety and our lives.
In just 100 days, the Trump administration has:
❌ Signed an executive order to "protect Second Amendment rights" and created a "Second Amendment Task Force," advancing the administration's "guns everywhere" agenda.
❌ Gave the Attorney General sole authority to restore gun rights to prohibited individuals, including those convicted of felonies and domestic abuse.
❌ Removed the 2024 Surgeon General advisory declaring gun violence a public health crisis and shuttered the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
❌ Appointed gun rights extremist and FBI Director Kash Patel to lead the ATF, and then replaced him with Army Secretary Daniel P. Driscoll — treating leadership of the sole agency tasked with overseeing the gun industry as a part time role.
❌ Rolled back the ATF's "zero tolerance" policy, which cracked down on rogue gun dealers who egregiously violate federal law.
❌ Laid off thousands of critical public health workers at the HHS and the CDC, impacting our ability to understand the scope of gun violence in the U.S. and develop evidence-based solutions.
These actions will have deadly consequences. Since President Trump took office, over 4,000 people have lost their lives to gun violence. And there have been at least 78 mass shootings. Trump's response? "These things are terrible. But the gun doesn't do the shooting, the people do."
Despite this, we at Brady continue to hold the line and explore all avenues to both advance and protect life-saving gun violence prevention measures — because our lives and the lives of our loved ones are on the line.
We have helped lead inspiring work across state legislatures, with states advancing bills to ensure responsible firearm sales, secure storage, and strengthen background checks. And just this week, we joined gun violence prevention champions on Capitol Hill to re-introduce federal legislation to BAN deadly assault weapons and large-capacity magazines — weapons used time and again in our deadliest mass shootings.
In 100 days, yes, we have seen attack after attack on gun violence prevention. But in 100 days, we have also seen activists of all ages and backgrounds, state leaders, and members of Congress fight back against these attempts to roll back gun safety.
Today, we're asking you, friend, to join us again in standing up to the Trump administration by telling Congress to take action and support the Assault Weapons Ban of 2025!
