| Jason, June is Gun Violence Awareness Month. Gun violence continues to be a pressing issue in our country, and it remains one of the leading causes of death for children in the U.S. As a mother and community leader, this isn't just talk for me. As a Rockland County Legislator, I've worked across the aisle to advance smart, commonsense measures to reduce gun violence. One step we took—unanimously—was to require gun shops to display warning signs about the risks of firearm ownership, including the number for the National Suicide Prevention Hotline. But I know there is so much more we can do at the federal level. Unfortunately, Republicans like Mike Lawler have stood in the way of meaningful progress, opposing universal background checks and other life-saving reforms. I'm running for Congress because our kids, our schools, and our neighborhoods deserve better. I will fight for universal background checks, support red flag laws, and push for a ban on assault weapons because protecting lives should never be a partisan debate. |
