| Jason, You know what? In a tsunami of hogwash, lies, and incoherent drivel from this president, sometimes it's a throwaway remark that pisses me off the most. The other day, sitting in a golden chair in the Oval Office, Donald Trump told reporters that one of the biggest problems America faces is "[Democrats] hate our country." I know, I know, I know. This is how a broken brain works: Anyone who's not for me is my enemy. Anyone who doesn't support the president's agenda must hate the country. I've raised three kids; trust me, I've seen this toddler logic before. But I'll be damned if I'm going to sit here and let this guy lecture me on what it means to be a patriot. I'm a proud Democrat. I also put my life on the line for the country I love. Donald Trump knows zilch about service — and he knows even less about what makes America great. Because he's never seen war, he can't comprehend that politics is what we do to prevent war. He can't wrap his head around the simple idea that, in a democracy, your political opposition isn't an "enemy." And maybe that's the part that fires me up the most. At the end of the day, this is one of the biggest problems in our country today: the destructive idea Trump has injected into our politics that we're at war with one another. It's a mindset that justifies sending in the military to break up peaceful protests or deporting U.S. citizens or jailing former presidents. Or worse... If we do not defeat Trumpism and reject this poisonous idea of America, I fear what comes next. The good news is, right now, we are seeing the first real signs that people are waking up to the nightmare this president has created — but that only matters if we organize, if we mobilize at the polls, and if we win the elections that will take his power away. That's exactly why I started DMA, and as long as I still have fight in me, I'll be on the front lines. Will you join me and chip in, if you can, to help build this grassroots operation? I still believe in and love America, and I bet you do, too. Amy
