| Jason, Ten years after the landmark 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision that legalized same-sex marriage, a challenge to the ruling is before the U.S. Supreme Court. And here in Michigan, State House Republicans are doubling down on their attack against marriage equality. Earlier this year, a Republican State Representative introduced a resolution calling on the Supreme Court to overturn Obergefell. Extremists are no longer just gearing up for another fight – that fight is now. Michigan's 2004 marriage amendment is still written into our state constitution, banning same-sex marriages and civil unions. If Obergefell falls, that language would be in effect and no new same-sex marriage licenses would be allowed to be issued in Michigan. As Michigan's first openly gay State Senator, this is personal for me. I'm running for Congress because I'm committed to protecting every Michigan family. We can't sit back and wait for the worst to happen. I've fought back against these efforts in Michigan, and I'll fight like hell to protect our rights in Congress. We need to protect marriage equality for generations to come. Please add your name to protect our rights. |
