| Jason, Over the last three months, I traveled across Michigan. I met faith leaders in Grand Rapids. Farmers in the Upper Peninsula. Educators and health workers in Marlette. I walked main streets in Flint and Benton Harbor. Talked with small business owners in Traverse City. Sat down with business leaders and grassroots organizers in Detroit. I listened. I asked questions. I shared in their frustration. They told me the truth. People aren't getting ahead like they used to. Our nation is struggling to find its way. I entered this race to fight for those voices. And I'm proud of what we accomplished together in the Legislature for Michigan. We expanded the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to protect LGBTQ+ Michiganders. Repealed a century-old abortion ban. Passed gun safety laws to reduce violence. Delivered one of the largest tax cuts in state history for working families and seniors. We made school breakfast and lunch free for every student. Repealed the so-called right-to-work law. Restored workers' rights. Invested $3.8 billion in infrastructure. Launched tools to help small businesses grow, including the $75 million Small Business Smart Zones and Business Accelerators initiative. After reflection, I've decided to leave the race for U.S. Senate. I'm not stepping back. I'm shifting how I serve. I love Michigan. This state gave myself and my family an opportunity to succeed. It prepared me to serve my country in the United States Marine Corps, and has allowed me the honor of serving in the Michigan State Legislature since 2019. I have faith that good and honesty can transcend anger and hate. I believe in economic policies that serve working families. That working hard shouldn't mean earning less. Every family sitting at the dinner table should feel hope about what's ahead. Not dread. That's why I'm a Democrat. That's why I'll do everything I can to support Democrats, up and down the ballot. To every person who opened their door. Shared their story. Walked beside me. Thank you. Your courage. Your honesty. Your hope. Let's move forward. Let's make it better. Joe Tate |
