Donald Trump has launched a brazen attempt to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook — an action that blatantly defies the law.

Cook, appointed by President Biden in 2022 to a 14-year term, is neither removable at will nor subject to dismissal without cause and Trump’s attempt to fire her lacks any factual or legal basis.

This is more than an attack on one individual. Trump’s move strikes at the heart of the Fed’s political independence, a cornerstone of our economic stability. If unchecked, it will set a dangerous precedent.
