| Jason, This Labor Day, I'm standing with workers from coast to coast in celebrating the unions that fight for workers' protections and strengthen our communities. As an immigration attorney, I work with families that have been left behind every day. Unions have helped workers fight for the protections that they deserve and help put food on the table for their families at home. Across America, there are millions of hardworking immigrants who have built this country and who continue to strengthen the labor movement every day in some of the most challenging, tiring and taxing jobs. The labor movement wouldn't be where it is today if it wasn't for the dedication and advocacy of the immigrant community. Today, I want to honor and acknowledge the workers who serve as the backbone of the workforce in California and across the country: farmworkers, nurses and caregivers, fire fighters, janitors, teachers, truck drivers, hotel and restaurant workers and so many more. I know what it's like to balance work and family. Growing up and well into adulthood, I saw firsthand the challenges individuals and families face just to get by. That's why I'm running for Congress: to work for justice, amplify the voice of working families, and towards a future where hard work pays off for everyone. I hope you get some rest this Labor Day. Thank you for your contribution and thank you for standing with me. Standing with you, Lisa |
