| Jason, I'm Dr. Joe Anderson, a pediatrician in Lewiston and the founder of Maine Providers for Gun Safety. On the night of October 25, 2023, I stood in the emergency department as victims of Maine's deadliest mass shooting arrived. The chaos, the confusion, and the grief I witnessed that night will stay with me forever. Families begged for help — but Maine's laws didn't give them the tools to stop the tragedy. That's why I helped form Maine Providers for Gun Safety, and why I'm supporting Yes on 2 this November. Question 2 creates a proven safeguard that empowers families and law enforcement to go directly to a judge and temporarily remove firearms from someone in crisis before it's too late. As doctors, we're trained to listen when families say something is wrong, because their intuition is almost always right. Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) are built on that same principle — trusting Mainers to recognize danger and act to save lives. On November 4, we have the chance to honor those we lost in Lewiston by saying yes — yes to protecting families, yes to preventing suicide, yes to keeping our communities safe. Will you chip in $25 today to help the Maine Gun Safety Coalition spread this message before the November election? |
