| Jason, Today is my dad's birthday, and I wanted to take a moment to celebrate and share more of his story and how he inspires me every day. My dad, Billy, grew up in Dover, New Hampshire. He shared a bedroom with his three sisters in a tenement apartment building. His parents, my grandparents, were millworkers who worked in shoe factories in Dover, Newmarket, and Farmington to support their family. When my grandmother got sick, she did piecemeal work from the family's kitchen table. During WWII, my grandfather tried to join the Marines, but was turned away because of damage to his legs caused by polio. To contribute to the war effort, he became a welder at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. |
| My dad was the only one in his family to go to college. Enrolling in ROTC and commuting from home made it possible for him to attend the University of New Hampshire. The GI Bill and seasonal work in a small business made it possible for him to earn a law degree. His story embodies the American Dream. And through every chapter of my life, he's been a constant and unconditional champion — believing in me, pushing me, showing me what it means to work hard and live a life with integrity. I am motivated every day on the campaign trail by the values he passed down: hard work, compassion, being of service to others, and a deep belief that you should leave things better than you found them. I've been very lucky to have his guidance and support throughout my life; he's truly the very best. Happy Birthday to you, Dad! With gratitude, Stefany |
