Hi Jason,
I hope that this message finds you in good health.
Today we honor and commit to continuing the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Poverty, violence, and racism are not necessary or inevitable.
Humanity can overcome them within a generation, and realize Dr. King's dream of the Beloved Community.
These are painful times. So many have been afflicted by disease or lost loved ones. So many are struggling to sustain themselves, to put food on the table, to afford the basics. The integrity of our democratic process is under attack. Racism continues to corrupt our souls and our way of life.
But Jason, better days are coming. Help is on the way.
We are turning the page now on these last four years of bitter division.
The darkness is receding.
The fog is lifting.
And we can elevate our eyes to the horizon again and dream about what is possible.
Dr. King called upon us all to believe in the possibility of building a society and a world free of racism, poverty, and violence.
That Beloved Community is not a utopia, nor is it a place without tension or dispute.
It is a realistic and necessary ambition. It is our destination.
We can build a world defined by compassion, freedom, health, and opportunity for all -- founded on love for each other and rooted in our common humanity -- a world where our commitment to human rights is too strong to be broken by greed, cruelty, and hate.
Dr. King's dream is alive.
Feel it, know it, believe in it, work for it.
Jon
