Jason,
CBS recently took a poll asking Americans about what happened exactly one year ago tomorrow. The good news is that 83% of us still disapprove of the insurrection.
But the underlying numbers are disturbing. Among Republicans, 56% said the Jan. 6th participants were "defending freedom." Worse, most Americans believe that political violence will continue — 62% expect violence from the losing party in future elections. In fact, one in eight Americans said that Donald Trump should be physically fighting to be reinstated as the president.
It's a harsh reminder: Our democracy isn't something that's guaranteed. It's not going to save itself. The Constitution relies on the people who care enough to defend it — right now, that's me and you.
They're lying about what happened that day, just like they're still lying about the 2020 election. And now, we know that political money is going along with it.
In the aftermath of the insurrection, dozens of major corporations vowed to withhold financial support for the 147 Republicans who voted to overturn the election. But since January 6th, those same companies have contributed nearly $5 million to members of the Sedition Caucus and groups that support them.
Think about that: These people tried to steal an election, and major corporations — after briefly acknowledging that these people participated in an insurrection — decided to keep funding their campaigns.
None of this stops unless these members of Congress are held accountable and a big part of that is up to us. We need to make sure they lose their jobs this November.
I'm asking you today to support our campaign to defeat people like Ron Johnson, Lauren Boebert, and their friends in the Sedition Caucus in Congress — especially right now, please chip in what you can.
Thank you, Amy
