Jason,
The Supreme Court's ruling yesterday is hard to fathom.
To say the president is immune from prosecution for crimes committed during "official acts" is to place that person above the rule of law. Thomas Jefferson must be spinning in his grave — it was 248 years ago this week that we told the world we were done with that kind of government.
This ruling is the latest, most urgent reminder of how fragile our democracy is. We have a candidate for president openly fantasizing about being a "dictator on Day One," and now we have the Supreme Court telling us they'll let him do it.
The courts aren't coming to rescue us from Donald Trump's authoritarian behavior. Our only recourse is at the ballot box.
Here's an update on that: Our team has identified swing voters in every battleground state who typically lean Republican, but are turned off by Trump's anti-democratic tendencies.
I believe these voters will determine the outcome in November, and no other organization out there is exclusively targeting them. That's why I intend to do everything I can to reach pro-democracy voters — and to do so with the exact right messengers to make sure they leave Trump behind.
If you've already chipped in to support this mission, I can't thank you enough. We're making real headway, but we still have a long way to go to be as aggressive as we'd like to be in our voter outreach.
For those who want to make sure we can fully fund our plans, right now is a powerful time to chip in. Trump must lose this election — and people like you and me must make sure of it.
Together, it's time to declare our independence from those who want to destroy our democracy.
Thank you,
Amy
