A troubling statistic

Here in Maine, we have the chance to pass a law that will prevent suicides in our communities.

 

Jason, Maine's gun death rate is the highest in the Northeast, and Maine has seen a 49% increase in gun violence over the last decade. Every number represents a family torn apart, a parent, sibling, or child lost far too soon. 90% of gun deaths in our state are suicides, and behind every statistic is a life that could have been saved. We can put a stop to this crisis, but we need your help. FIGHT BACK Here in Maine, we have the chance to pass a law that will prevent suicides in our communities. This November, by voting Yes on 2 and passing Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), we can empower families and law enforcement to temporarily remove firearms from individuals showing signs of dangerousness—an important and necessary step to save lives. Every two days, a Mainer dies by gun—leaving behind heartbroken loved ones. In the face of so many lives lost and a pro-gun lobby with seemingly endless resources, passing ERPOs would be a major victory that will protect families and communities across Maine.
