Jason -- a quick update on the COVID-19 relief package:
Three weeks ago, at 5:30 AM, I saw Kamala Harris walk into the Senate chamber.
I was sitting at my spot in the back left corner. We'd been debating the COVID relief budget for 15 hours.
We were ready to pass a $1.9 trillion budget to pave the way for passage of President Biden's public health and economic rescue package.
Thanks to your help and our victories in Georgia, we have 50 votes in the Senate. So, that morning, to advance COVID relief, we just needed Kamala to break the tie.
Then it happened: Presiding over the Senate as Vice President, Kamala Harris cast her vote to pass that COVID relief budget resolution.
Jason, our January victories in Georgia made that possible. Your support made that possible.
Now, here's the latest:
The U.S. House is expected to pass the COVID relief bill, based on that budget, as soon as today.
Once the House passes the bill, it will come back to the Senate.
And I am urging my colleagues to pass this COVID relief bill as swiftly as possible so we can get it to Joe Biden for his signature and get help out to the people.
While this legislation has worked its way through Congress, Senator Warnock and I have been hard at work to secure these priorities: Vaccine Distribution: billions in vaccine distribution funding, including for CDC and FEMA to set up state and federal distribution sites Direct Payments: additional direct economic relief for families and individuals K-12 School Funding: flexible funds that will allow schools to safely reopen and cover COVID-related expenses, reduce class size, and implement public health guidelines Direct Support for Smaller Localities and Rural Communities: so that it's not just big cities that get direct relief from the federal government Rental and Mortgage Assistance: rent and mortgage assistance for low and moderate income families to pay their mortgage and utility bills Medicaid Expansion Incentive: funds for states like Georgia to expand Medicaid, which would help 500,000 Georgians afford and access care Historically Black Colleges and Universities: direct grants to HBCUs in Georgia and across the country, which have been hit hard by this pandemic - Relief for Black Farmers: debt relief and financial support for farmers who have faced historic discrimination and who have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19
Jason, we're only on track to pass this relief because we won in Georgia and won the Senate majority.
If you're able, please chip in a few dollars to help my team make early investments in our efforts to HOLD the Senate in 2022 and grow our majority, including organizing and voter protection in battleground states like Georgia.
If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: | | Jason, together we built a historic organizing movement in Georgia that turned out thousands of new and unlikely voters.
To keep our Senate majority and elect Democrats in critical races, we need to make early investments in 2022 battleground states ASAP. Thanks for your help with this, Jason.
Talk soon,
Jon |
