Jason —
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York was unanimously elected as House Democratic Leader, and he made history doing it.
Rep. Jeffries is the first Black member of Congress to lead a party caucus. It's a major step forward not only for the Democratic Party, but more importantly for our entire country.
Along with Rep. Katherine Clark of Massachusetts and Rep. Pete Aguilar of California, this is the first time either party's top three leadership positions will all be held by women and people of color — reflecting the true diversity of these United States.
The next generation of Democratic leadership is ready to continue the enormous progress we have made these past two years, and it would mean a great deal to show that they have our support.
Jason, sign our card congratulating Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, Rep. Katherine Clark, and Rep. Pete Aguilar for their historic elections to House Democratic leadership and help show that we've got their back.
We also owe debts of gratitude to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, and Whip Jim Clyburn.
Speaker Pelosi is the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House. She served across not one but two presidencies, and led the Democratic Party in passing historic legislation, from the Affordable Care Act to the Respect for Marriage Act.
She led the opposition to Republican presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump and helped flip the House majority in 2006 and 2018, proving to be a vital check against their power and setting the stage for the elections of President Obama and President Biden.
Whip Clyburn, our founder Jaime Harrison's personal mentor, and Leader Steny Hoyer have been by Speaker Pelosi's side for years, and we are grateful for their continued service supporting the next generation of leaders.
We're ready to start the work of winning back the House in 2024 while defending the White House and our Senate majority.
So Jason, add your name to congratulate Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and the rest of the newly-elected House Democratic leadership today >>
Thanks,
Clay Middleton
