They're allowed to lie about evidence or possible sentences. This has historically led to false confessions and wrongful convictions. These deceptive tactics exploit the vulnerabilities of young people and damage Americans' faith in our justice system. False confessions are one of the most common causes of wrongful convictions in the United States, and young people are disproportionately likely to fall victim to coercive tactics. Of 268 minors who were wrongly convicted as children, 34% are reported to have falsely confessed -- compared to just 10% of adults. It is past time for Congress to take swift and comprehensive action to address this crisis. We must immediately introduce legislation that will prohibit law enforcement officers from using deceptive tactics when interrogating minors. Please, join us and sign onto our petition now if you agree. Historically, innocent young people have been coerced and tricked into giving false confessions. This ruins the lives of minors, tears apart their families and communities, and erodes public trust in the criminal justice system. It is the responsibility of our elected officials to prioritize the rights and well-being of our youth and protect them from coercive interrogation practices. California, Delaware, Illinois, Oregon, and Utah have already taken action and passed comprehensive legislation to protect minors from deceptive police tactics. We're calling on Congress to act and expand these protections to the federal level. Add your name now to urge Congress to support legislation banning police deception tactics against minors during interrogations now. Thank you for fighting for the most vulnerable members of our communities.
