First, we saw the Republican candidate for North Carolina governor speak at a church about a perceived threat from left-leaning political opponents before concluding that "some folks need killing. … It's a matter of necessity!" He wants to kill Americans for their political beliefs, and he said we shouldn't hesitate to do so because, just like the Nazis, "they're bad. Kill them." Keep in mind, that's not some random Republican — that's their nominee for governor in a battleground state. A few days later, we heard the head of Heritage Foundation — the organization behind Project 2025 — tell a crowd that the MAGA takeover of the federal government is part of something bigger, saying "The second American Revolution will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be." None of that is subtle. And I'm not going to tell you that we shouldn't be terrified. But here's the thing: The data couldn't be clearer. Voters (thankfully) hate this stuff, especially the voters who will decide this election. In fact, they're so turned off by this kind of talk that you're seeing Trump's camp in overdrive the past few days trying to distance him from it. It's our job to make sure they can't escape it. Voters deserve to know who will be running the country if Trump gets re-elected, and I need your help to make sure we reach as many pro-democracy voters in battleground states as we can. Will you chip in right now? Let's state the obvious. Anyone who would threaten their fellow Americans' lives doesn't understand this country or what makes it great. These men are trying to cover up the weakness of their ideas with bluster and violent rhetoric. They're mistaking talking tough with being tough. That doesn't mean we shouldn't take these threats seriously. In fact, we can't afford not to. We must defeat them in this election. As President Biden likes to say, this is a battle for the soul of our nation. That feels truer than ever right now. And I'm so grateful to be in this fight alongside you.
