It's horrifying that Alaska Republicans are willing to disenfranchise voters rather than actually focusing on the issues that matter and earning voters' support as they desperately try to unseat Mary Peltola!
Jason,
In a recent interview, Alaska House Speaker Cathy Tilton boldly admitted that she and her cronies blocked an election reform bill that would have made it easier for rural Alaskans to vote.
"The changes in that bill definitely would have leaned the election towards Mary Peltola."
- Alaska House Speaker Cathy Tilton
Here's the deal, Jason: rural Alaskans disproportionately face the highest rejection rate of absentee ballots across the state. Almost two-thirds of those rejections were because they lacked a witness signature.
The Alaska State Senate passed the election reform bill, which would have eliminated the witness signature requirement and ensured rural Alaskans could make their voice heard. However, the Alaska State House refused to even bring the bill up for a vote, and now we know why.
The right to vote is the foundation of our democracy. It's horrifying that Alaska Republicans are willing to disenfranchise voters rather than actually focusing on the issues that matter and earning voters' support as they desperately try to unseat Mary Peltola!
