Friend – my roots are planted deeply in Georgia soil. I grew up in public housing on the west side of Savannah – and I attended Morehouse College, a historically Black university in Atlanta. I went on what I called a "full faith" scholarship, meaning I didn't know how I would pay for my first full semester. But through hard work and the support of my community, I was the first in my family to graduate from college – and then became the senior pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church, the spiritual home of Martin Luther King Jr. I know firsthand how attending an HBCU prepared me for a life of service – and I'm fighting tooth and nail in the Senate to make sure every kid has the opportunity to achieve their American dream. But this is going to be an uphill battle: Experts at CNN confirm that I'm the most vulnerable Senate Democrat up for reelection, and recent polls show me falling 1 point behind.
