Jason —
We're a year and a half away from the 2024 election. You'd be justified in refusing to waste time worrying about what the latest poll says about who's winning. (Around here, the only horse race on people's minds happened at Churchill Downs.)
So that's why the new ABC News/Washington Post poll that shows Trump with a 7-point lead over President Biden doesn't have me in a state of panic. The underlying numbers, however, are horrifying.
When asked who handled the economy better, 54% of voters said Trump with only 36% choosing Biden — in spite of job growth that is twice as strong as the first two years under Trump and an unemployment rate lower than any we've seen since we landed on the moon.
The facts are clear about which president has done better with the economy. But that reality isn't reflected in voters' perception. Unfortunately, that's not something you can change overnight with a told-you-so fact check or a slick TV ad. Our side needs to put in the actual work and reach voters where they are — it takes real conversations and influential voices speaking out.
Democratic Majority Action is a project I started to help defend our democracy from Trump and MAGA extremism — we have an important role to play in the next 18 months, and we can't wait around while poll numbers get worse.
I'm asking for your help today, because I know you're someone who, like me, refuses to just sit back and hope it all works out. Saving our democracy requires each of us doing our part — if you can, will you chip in today to fund this work?
Thank you,
Amy
