Jason —
The Washington Post recently conducted a focus group of Trump-Biden voters — people who cast ballots for Trump in 2016 but flipped to Biden in 2020. It's a critical group, about 3.4% of people who voted in both elections. Without them, it's unclear if President Biden would have carried the day.
In that focus group, an alarming 40% said they didn't plan to vote for Biden again, with half of those voters saying they planned to switch back to Trump.
This tells me we have a whole lot of work to do in this election, and we can't afford to wait for this trend to get worse. Will you chip in right now to help fund our plans to reach key voters and make sure they know the true stakes in this election?
Let's not beat around the bush. What's driving a lot of voters' concerns is President Biden's age. In an NPR poll this week, 62% of voters considered his mental fitness for the job a "real" concern. (It's worth mentioning that a smaller majority said the same of Trump.)
Look, I'm not here to brush aside those concerns. We all want a president who's ready and able to lead. But we also want — and need — a president who reveres the Constitution and the rule of law. We want — and need — a president who doesn't get cozy with dictators or refuse to admit when he lost an election. We want — and need — a president who will always put our democracy ahead of his own grip on power.
If the election is between President Biden and a second term of Trump, we know what the stakes are. It's not age — in fact, no matter who wins that race, they'd be the oldest person ever inaugurated president.
Only one of those two people are equipped to lead a democracy, and every single voter in this country needs to know it. That's our mission — make a donation right now and let's build the operation that can get the job done.
Thank you,
Amy
