On February 8, 2024, a 16-year-old transgender student, Nex Benedict, died only a day after allegedly being assaulted in the restroom at Owasso High School in Oklahoma. This was a tragic event and, yet again, we as a nation have failed to protect transgender youth.
It is not an exaggeration to say that—unless our government works together to protect our most vulnerable young people—the bullying, harassment, and violence of the transgender community will continue to worsen.
Our champions not only speak out against discrimination now, but have actively voted for, sponsored, and introduced legislation to protect the LGBTQ+ community. Just take a look:
Who we keep in our nation’s highest and most powerful offices will determine the future of LGBTQ+ rights for our nation. That’s why we need to protect the Senate seats of proven champions for our communities like Sherrod Brown, Bob Casey, Jacky Rosen, and Jon Tester.
