| Jason, Happy Juneteenth! On this day in 1865 – two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed – the last enslaved people in the United States were freed. Today, we honor and remember this milestone. But as we reflect on this history and progress, we must also recognize that there is still more work ahead of us as we aspire to form a more perfect union. While far-right Republicans are working to divide us and set us back, we must continue working together to blaze trails toward a truly equitable future. I've spent my career fighting for Michigan and the community that raised me, and I'm not giving up on this fight anytime soon. This Juneteenth, I hope you'll join me in this fight and help us lay a foundation for the next generation of Michiganders. Onward, Joe |
