| | Jason-- Over the past few weeks, South Carolinians have voted in record numbers all across the state, and folks like you have donated and volunteered and poured your heart and soul into this campaign. Unfortunately, we fell short. Tonight, Lindsey Graham won re-election to another term in the U.S. Senate. I congratulate Senator Graham on his victory, and hope that he brings the lessons he learned from this race back to Washington with him. But even in defeat, I'm so proud. I am proud of this movement that we've built, that allowed me, a round-headed boy from Orangeburg, to challenge Lindsey Graham and give him the fight of his political life. And I'm proud of this team that broke record after record, turned out millions of voters, and reminded Lindsey Graham that he reports to the people of South Carolina first and foremost. We have come so far since we started this race, and it's all thanks to folks like you who took a chance on an underdog in a deep red state, and believed in our message of hope. I can promise you -- we brought hope back to South Carolina in a monumental way. While I may have lost, I take comfort in the knowledge that our state is better off for having run this campaign. Lindsey Graham left South Carolina in the dust -- and for the first time in his career, folks all across our state, from every county and every party, stood up and told him enough is enough. We pressed him, and challenged him in a way that he has never been challenged before. And I hope that he learned a thing or two from our movement of hope. Our state motto is While I Breathe, I Hope. And folks, even tonight, those words still ring true. In solidarity, Jaime Harrison |
