The No. 1 impediment to getting things done in this country is corruption in our political system. Across the political spectrum, the American people overwhelmingly support things like expanding health care access, tackling climate change, and providing critical financial relief amid this economic crisis. Yet progress is stalled because of the corrosive, pervasive influence of lobbyists, corporations, and special interest groups in Washington. The problem isn’t even about Democrats vs. Republicans. The problem is the power of the fossil fuel industry, the pharmaceutical industry, the insurance companies, the gun lobby, and other special interest groups that exploit our campaign finance system to buy the allegiance of crooked politicians like David Perdue. It’s time to elect leadership that caters to the needs of the people, not the interests of big corporations. The only way to get face time with Georgia’s senior Senator is to pay for it. He openly sells access to his home on a private island for corporate PAC checks. It’s because of corruption like this that we can’t take action on issues that the American people agree on. And if we keep seeing corruption like this, the American people will continue to suffer. Here’s the solution. We need to ban dark money, overturn Citizens United, get rid of corporate PACs, and stop federal lobbyists from being able to make political contributions. In the meantime, I am refusing to accept corporate PAC and federal lobbyist contributions on my own campaign. Instead, I’m relying on small-dollar contributions from grassroots donors like you, Jason.
