Hi Jason,
A week ago today, I took the oath of office to become a United States Senator.
Escorted by my friend, Senator Cory Booker, I was sworn in on Hebrew scripture that belonged to historic Atlanta Rabbi Jacob Rothschild, a civil rights activist and close ally of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In my jacket pocket was a copy of the ships' manifests recorded at Ellis Island when my Great Grandfather Israel arrived in 1911 and my Great Grandmother Annie arrived in 1913.
My great grandparents came to this country in search of the American Dream. More than a century later, I became the first Jew to represent Georgia in the U.S. Senate.
Jason, we've been through hell these last four years. This last year in particular. But the fog is lifting. The possibilities are limitless. This is our future to build.
Together, we can build a republic that lives up to our highest ideals. We can write the next chapter in our history, and establish a politics based on love for each other and an unbreakable commitment to human rights.
Better days are coming.
We're going to get this virus under control, provide vaccines to every American, and invest in an economic recovery that includes all communities.
We're going to make sure every Georgian and every American has great health care, no matter our wealth.
And we're going to make equal justice for all a reality in America.
As I should and as I must, I feel a heavy obligation to make the most of this chance to do good. There's not a minute to waste, and together, this team -- you and I, all of us -- are going to build that future together.
Thank you for believing in me, Jason.
This is just the beginning.
With love and deep gratitude,
Jon
