Wade. Since then, extremist Republicans in 14 states worked to enact devastating abortion bans. Seven more states have tightly restricted access to abortion care. They're not stopping there: conservatives in multiple states are attempting to restrict in vitro fertilization (IVF) care, direct hundreds of millions of public dollars to deceptive, anti-abortion "crisis pregnancy centers," and enact legislation limiting LGBTQ+ Americans' access to critically needed healthcare. But there's good news, too. Americans who care about freedom, equality, and self-determination are pushing back against this extremism. A solid majority of Americans agree that abortion should be legal in all or most cases. Local governments in North Carolina, Texas, Maryland, Louisiana, and Virginia are passing proclamations and resolutions to increase access to reproductive healthcare. And in November, abortion will be on the ballot in as many as 10 states — and all 10 could codify the right to abortion in their state constitutions. We've got to keep up this momentum. Rep. Nikema Williams (D-GA-05) will introduce a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives that, if passed, would affirm abortion as a human right. Passing a bill like this is going to take the support of hundreds of thousands of grassroots co-sponsors — so we're asking for your personal endorsement. Take action now and sign the petition: ABORTION IS A HUMAN RIGHT. The abortion bans proposed by extremist Republicans across the country are inhumane and dangerous. They infringe on our right to make our own deeply personal medical decisions and will put hundreds of thousands of people in difficult situations. The overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022's Dobbs v. Jackson case has set civil rights in America back by decades. We're demanding change and working to protect the right to safe and accessible reproductive healthcare.
