| Jason, Today marks five years since the insurrection at our nation's Capitol. Like so many Americans that day, I watched in horror as fellow citizens inflicted violence and chaos while the outgoing President refused to call the National Guard or demand that his supporters stand down. My mom was in the Capitol building that day. For hours, we could not reach her to confirm her safety, and when we finally did, she shared that she was evacuated by Capitol Police, and while they were rushing to find safety, she could see people scaling the side of the Capitol building. The peaceful transfer of power is a fundamental promise of our democracy and one that we must always uphold. Five years ago today, Donald Trump broke this promise. This administration continues to disregard and dismantle America's democratic norms. Executive power continues to be exploited and stretched far beyond what our founders intended. Political violence and vitriol are normalized in terribly dangerous ways. We cannot let this continue. Protecting our democracy requires leaders who are relentlessly dedicated to serving the people and our country; who will speak up and act on behalf of our values, no matter what. That's why I'm fighting to serve New Hampshire's first district in Congress. I refuse to live in a country run by someone seeking absolute power. America must always be a nation of the people governed by the people and for the people. I promise to channel the fear I felt five years ago today into the fights that matter most for New Hampshire. Thank you for standing with me, Stefany |
