| Jason, I'm about to become a father for the first time. Everyone keeps telling me there are a million books that will prepare you for this moment. I believe them. I've also accepted that none of them actually will. So I've been doing what I do best. Thinking. Wondering what kind of world my kid will grow up in. And because I'm a bit of a nerd, that thinking keeps bringing me back to public policy. What helps kids thrive? What helps parents breathe a little easier? One answer surprised me. Here in Philadelphia, nearly 40 percent of the city's soda tax helps fund free preschool. Between 2017 and 2022, that tax generated $158 million to open thousands of preschool seats, support educators, and keep programs running. It even helped parents find more stable jobs by giving them access to childcare. That's the kind of policy that sticks with me. Not flashy. Just practical. Helping kids learn. Helping parents work. Making life a little more possible. As I get ready for this next chapter of my life, I feel more certain than ever that creating a better world for our children is not abstract. It is a series of choices we make together. If you agree that we owe our kids a future that is fair, compassionate, and grounded in real solutions, will you join my campaign today by contributing $25 or whatever you can afford? Together, we can build a world that takes care of all our children. |
