They’re already trying to blame DEI

Jason,

The more we learn about the tragedy that happened last night in Washington, D.C., the more heartbreaking and horrifying it becomes.

Yet, this morning a Republican member of Congress went on Fox and asked: "Did DEI play a role?" President Trump just went on national TV and tried — without any evidence — to blame Biden and diversity hiring.

It's truly galling, shameful behavior. But you realize that this is all they've got — their brains don't work in any other way. Something bad happened? Blame woke. Scapegoat minorities. Make Americans scared of someone.

The truth is, there are some real, pointed questions our leaders should be asking the Trump administration right now, because aircraft should never collide in midair outside a major American airport.

  • We need to know why the Federal Aviation Administration director was pressured to resign last week by Elon Musk, an un-elected tycoon and the president's biggest donor.

  • We need to know why there is currently no acting director of the FAA.

  • We need to know why there was a blanket hiring freeze on air traffic controllers, halting the Biden administration's efforts to address a short-staffed industry.

  • We need to know why, the night before this tragedy, the remaining air traffic controllers (along with the rest of the federal workforce) were blindly invited to quit their jobs in order to save taxpayer money.

The people on that American Airlines flight, the three soldiers who were in the helicopter, and all of their loved ones — they deserved better than what unfolded last night. We owe it to them to ask the real questions, to get to the bottom of what happened, and to never let it happen again.

That's what responsible leaders would do. I fear we'll get a whole lot more finger-pointing at random diversity training programs instead.

We need to repeat this over and over: The federal government isn't like a tech startup. When you "move fast and break things," entire systems that our country relies on to function can be upended. Lives can be ruined. People can die.

The first 10 days of this Trump administration show that these guys either don't understand that, or they can't bring themselves to care about it.

They've told us they want chaos. They want to clean house and rebuild a government that serves people like them — billionaires and corrupt dealers. Whether last night's tragedy is related to these deliberate disruptions is unknown right now, but if this administration continues their mission to move fast and break things, I worry deeply that this is only the beginning.

It's on us to make sure their harmful, disruptive mission fails. Help fight back.

Thank you,

Amy
