By now, you've heard me go on and on about the pro-democracy voters I think are among the most important in this election.
Don't just take it from me — here's what a recent NBC News poll found: When asked if there's an issue that they personally feel so strongly about that they'd consider voting for or against a candidate solely because of it, 28% of voters said that issue was protecting democracy — nearly 10% higher than any other issue, including immigration, abortion, and guns.
That tells you all you need to know. The voters we need to win this election are right in front of us. And I'm thrilled that our team has devoted research to identifying which messengers are most effective at getting them to reject Trump.
That's why I send emails like this. We can win this election — we just need to execute the plan. Can you chip in right now to make sure we reach enough of these pro-democracy voters in key battleground states?
Every headline you see about a new poll focuses on the horserace results: Biden's up 2%, or Trump's up one. I'm sure that generates click, but it doesn't tell you what's actually happening in the electorate. Yes, the nation is divided. Yes, it's going to be close. That's not really news, is it?
You have to dig a little deeper to understand the trends. And I think a lot of people are missing just how many voters are ready to reject Trump because he represents a threat to democracy as we know it.
Refusing to vote for Trump is good. But there's a big difference between staying home and casting a vote for Biden. That's why it's so critical that efforts like ours get to work — deploying the most persuasive messages from the most effective messengers for this audience.
