Jason Postmaster General Louis DeJoy released his 10-year plan to improve the USPS over two years ago. His plan included raising postal rates, delaying mail delivery times, and shutting down local post offices around the country. He's intent on killing the USPS and privatizing the post office. He's ruining the potential of our country's postal system. Our Congress has aided DeJoy. They failed to repeal a law that forbids the USPS to introduce new services, forcing the service to stay trapped in 2006. It's time for Congress to act now and unlock the potential of the USPS by allowing it to introduce new services. Post offices could provide bus and subway passes, hunting and fishing licenses, postal banking, and parking ticket payment services. Delivery services could be expanded to benefit senior citizens, distribute groceries and pharmaceuticals. Post offices could also aid the state governments in offering verification for social security and EBT cards. The post office has long been a lifeline for many communities. Congress must allow USPS to change with the times again and stop Louis DeJoy from destroying it. We don't have time to wait for President Biden to nominate two new members to the USPS Board of Governors or for DeJoy to be ousted to make big changes.
