| Jason, I want to get personal with you today, as Republicans shut down our government in the name of reducing access to healthcare. I know what it's like to need emergency access to healthcare. Last month, I was in a very bad car accident. Another driver ran a red light, and we both crashed at full speed. I shattered the bone in my right arm requiring an intensive surgery and a few days in the hospital. Like any unexpected accident, this was not something I could plan or accommodate for. And like any unexpected accident, it has also cost me my time and my money. Luckily, I have health insurance. But I recognize that many Michiganders are one accident, incident, or diagnosis away from a situation much, much worse. In Lansing, I passed a state budget to avoid a shutdown and fund Medicaid and other critical health care needs. Meanwhile, in situations like this, Republicans in Congress are telling us we're on our own – even shutting down the federal government to prevent more access to healthcare. This is unconscionable. I'm not letting this slow me down. If anything, I'm even more determined to fight back. Will you chip in today to join my campaign and stand up to the mess in Washington? |
