Let me tell you why this is a can't-miss goal: Secretary of state races used to fly under the radar. It was a largely unseen role, with bureaucratic responsibilities, and unless you were related to one of the candidates, voters simply didn't take much of an interest. That all changed after 2020, when Donald Trump realized that he could have successfully stolen the election, if only he'd had a more malleable public official in the Georgia secretary of state office.
Now, the money flowing into secretary of state races in battleground states is 2.5x higher than it was at this point in 2018, and more than five times that of 2014. We already know Trump is a fundraising machine. He'll stop at nothing to bring in money for his handpicked extremist candidates, because — in his mind — those candidates represent his ticket back to the White House.
Winning this fight isn't going to come cheap. The folks who set our budget told me we needed to reach $300,000 by this monthly deadline if we want to start catching up to the other side. Some folks told me this first goal might be too ambitious — that it just might not be possible. But we aren't in this to play it safe. We're here to do what's necessary to stop Trump and save our democracy.
Trump's political allies have more than $100 million in their warchest ready to spend on this year's elections, and if we're going to defeat his election deniers in battleground states all across the country, we need to build up resources — fast.
That starts by hitting this fundraising goal — so Jason, I'm asking: Pitch in before midnight tonight to help close our $41,100 gap.
I know a lot of worthy causes are out there asking for your support, so I'm very grateful to have you on this team — because the future of our democracy is at stake here, and we can't save it without all hands on deck.
Thank you,
Amy
