Jason —
Here's a question I get a lot these days: Why are you still doing this?!
These are the same folks who thought I was crazy to get into electoral politics in the first place — they thought I'd lost my mind entirely when I decided to run against Mitch McConnell. Perhaps they figured (or hoped) that falling short in two tough elections would finally get me to reconsider and leave politics behind.
Well, I didn't. And what I tell them is I never dreamed I'd be doing any of this. I didn't run for office because I thought it'd be fun or easy. (Trust me, I knew early on it wouldn't always be fun, and it was almost never easy...sort of like being a Marine.)
It might sound corny, but I waded into these fights because I took an oath to defend the Constitution. Deep down, I knew I needed to do something to fight back against the dangerous direction my country was taking, and I didn't mind taking a few gut punches personally if it meant standing up for truth, democracy, and the rule of law.
The honest truth about why I'm still fighting is that these battles aren't over. The mission isn't complete. The fight to save our democracy isn't yet won.
It helps to know that, together, we've built a powerful grassroots team over the years. We've played a role in helping flip the House five years ago, helping flip the Senate two years later, and even defeating the most dangerous MAGA candidates in America last cycle.
Knowing you all have my back is what reminds me that I'm not in this alone. We each have a role to play in fighting back against the extremists who want to end our democracy as we know it. And I think we're pretty good at it.
Look, I know I have to ask for donations more often than I'd like. Truthfully, I'm not counting on you to support this organization every time I send an email. But I hope that if you're as proud to be in this fight as I am, you'll consider making a donation before our critical FEC deadline. A lot of our planning for the months ahead depends on it.
We're setting a goal of reaching 500 grassroots donations before midnight on June 30th — will you chip in to help reach that target and help us go big in our plans for 2024?
I say this a lot, because it's true: Your support means the world to me.
Thank you,
Amy
