The New York Times is reporting that Donald Trump is quietly funneling a percentage of his campaign donations to a PAC that is paying his legal fees.
That's right. Trump is tricking his supporters into providing millions of dollars to lawyers to keep him out of prison. It's a new level of deceit and corruption that might make you laugh if it wasn't all so depressing.
But here's the thing: Trump's real get-out-of-jail strategy isn't skimming off the top of his campaign coffers. It's winning back the White House. If he returns to power, he's all but promised to destroy the institutions that are holding him accountable. He says he'll pardon his co-conspirators of the Jan. 6th insurrection. And he's vowed to use the force of government to go after Democrats as payback.
That right there would spell the end of democracy and the rule of law in America. It's a future I plan to do everything in my power to prevent.
Our FEC fundraising deadline tomorrow is the biggest of the year, and it determines so much of our strategy moving forward. We're just 139 donations from our grassroots goal — can I count on you to come through when we need it most and make a donation to help reach our target?
Look, I'm not taking anything for granted. Look at the poll numbers. Trump is still a major threat. I'm all in to do my part to stop him and wannabe Trumps wherever they pop up. But I can't do it alone.
