Jason, Bump stocks are devices that virtually turn ordinary semi-automatic weapons — that civilians can legally own — into machine guns. Bump stocks allow the weapon to fire a continuous stream of bullets at a rate of up to 800 rounds per minute with just a single pull of the trigger. The Supreme Court recently struck down a federal ban on bump stocks, which classified semi-automatic rifles with bump stocks as machine guns and making them illegal to own. This regulation was enacted following the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting, during which the shooter used a bump stock to kill 60 people and wound 500 more in around ten minutes. Fifteen states and Washington, D.C. currently have bump stock bans, but it's time for Congress to take action and ban bump stocks nationwide.
